Sanderling

The Sanderling (Calidris alba) is a small wader seen in increasing numbers on my local beaches as the year progresses – probably my favourite wader.

These are the little guys you will see hooning up and down the beach just in front of the waves, and – if you don’t scare them – they can be very confiding: I’ve had them come too close to focus on!
