The Farnes again...

Despite appearances to the contrary, I’m still taking photographs!

I’ve just had a really “dry” year so far – nothing has gone quite as I’d wanted.

For example, I went to Bridlington for a few days in April: my express intention was to photograph the Gannets at Bempton Cliffs, but all I got was three solid days of fog so thick that I couldn’t even see the Gannets, much less photograph them. Sure, I got some nice Tree Sparrow images at the reserve building – they do look good on the red pantile roof – but they weren’t why I’d gone there.

And so it has been for most of the year. Even so, I’ve got umpteen individual shots that could stand being shown the light of day, so I’ll put up a 2011 Highlights post when I’ve decided which ones I like most.

And there’s always the Farnes. My buddy Mark Mowbray and I decided to do the All Day Bird Watch trip with Billy Shiels on 19 July: hopefully this late in the season there’d be fewer visitors (and so it turned out – only about a dozen of us on this trip); and although we’d miss most of the auks (the Guillemots being long gone and the Razorbills being down to a handful), there’d still be plenty of Puffins and Shags and – if I’m honest – I was hoping for some decent Grey Seal photo opportunities.

Even though the light was at best so-so for most of the day and there was some rain (which I was quite keen on – rain streaks in photos can add interest), things went nicely to plan.

So, with no significance to the order, a small selection of the near one thousand images I took on the day.

All taken with the Canon 7D and 100-400mm, handheld. Converted in Lightroom 3 or Capture One 6 Express.

Finally, an apology. I’ve just realised that I’ve had a number of website comments since my last visit to the Admin section (which was a while ago). It turns out that a change made by my web host to the email server I use needed me to make some changes my account settings to ensure that I’d continue receiving notification emails on my “capture-the-moment” account.

But I never got the email about it from the host!

This also means that if you’ve emailed me on this account, I won’t have received your mail. I haven’t been ignoring emails, I just haven’t been getting ‘em…

I’ll catch up with your comments as soon as I can.
